Improving communication between journalists and scientists
The interaction between scientists and journalists is often problematic. The former tend to stick to their technical notions, while the latter tend to over-simplify. Reconciling the complexity of science with the need of making scientific information accessible to citizens and policy-makers is key to respond effectively to the global ecological crisis. This event is a debate between the journalist Stefano Valentino, EGU Fellow 2024, and any scientist or science communicator willin to join. Those interested can come at the EGU booth at 1-2 pm on May 1 and 2 or book a time-slot by sending an email to stefano.valentino@globalreporter.it

Crowd-solving Problems in Earth sciences
Research often starts with the spark of an idea, but we spend most of our research time with the challenges that follow. In Earth Science research, these include 1) methodological dead-ends, a lack of theory or knowledge, 2) problems of temporal and spatial scaling and extrapolation, 3) restricted access to field sites or data, or 4) everyday hurdles of life as a scientist. With this meeting, we address some of those 'problems'. In discussing challenges among our diverse disciplines and backgrounds, we seek to find possible solutions, suggest new research approaches and methods, and encourage further networking.
